Entertainment: Something for Everyone

No matter what your musical or artistic taste, Carnevale! Venice Beach 2009 has something for everyone. This schedule will help make sure you don’t miss performances by your favorite local artists or, better yet, use it to discover a few of the hot, new local acts you’ve been missing!



Main Carnevale Stage

Stage MC: ~ The "quiet, shy and introverted" (Yeah, right!), Brady Walker, who’ll be joined periodically by his fellow Carnevale! producers, Miriam More and Esquire Jauchem along with the always bodacious Bonnie Cheeseman who helped found Carnevale!
Throughout
the day
~ During the various breaks, we’ll featuring several “friends of Carnevale!” including: classical and cabaret singer Christina Linhardt, L.A. City Councilman Bill Rosendahl, the sky-high antics of Stilt Circus and singer Suzy Williams performing "Sponto" in loving memory of longtime Venice resident, business owner and activist Mark "Sponto" Kornfeld who passed away last year.
Noon-12:10 pm ~ Welcome & Announcements
12:15-12:30 pm ~ Venice Drum Circle - Enjoy the furious, festive, free flowing beats of Venice's very own drum circle kicking-off Carnevale! Venice Beach 2009.
12:30-12:50 pm ~ The Rhymatist - Hip-hop with educational, family-friendly messages for children, Using music as his vehicle, The Rhymatist blends beats with his positive messages creating songs that strengthen self esteem, teach and just plain make you smile!
12:50-1:00 pm ~ Announcements
1:00-1:20 pm ~ QUEBB  - An eclectic song writing trio from Venice Beach, CA, delivering lyrically intense, harmony-driven ballads carried on organic world rhythms and acoustic rock instrumentals.
1:20-1:30 pm ~ Announcements
1:30-2:30 pm ~ Gabriel Rosati & The Brazilatafro Project - Italian-Brazilian trumpeter, trombonist and vocalist Gabriel Rosati and his band, the Brazilatafro Project, bring their sexy, sizzling BRAZIlian, LATin and AFRO sound to Carnevale! for their very first appearance.
2:30-2:45 pm ~ Announcements
2:45-3:15 pm ~ Eric Reed & Ufonik - Powerful vocals and an eclectic sound that everyone can relate to. Ufonik can move you with a ballad one minute and shake you with adrenaline-fueled rock and roll the next.
3:15-3:45 pm ~ Kathy Leonardo - Singer, guitarist and club favorite Kathy Leonardo blends her jammin' New York rock and blues style with her LA attitude and somehow ends up with a hot Southern jazz!
3:45-4:45 pm ~ Wadada Reggae - The Reggae band that's been thrilling audiences around the globe with their cosmic world beat returns to Carnevale! Venice Beach.
4:45-5:15 pm ~ Peter Demian & Gregory Cruz/"Street Smart" - Long-time Carnevale! favorites, who’ve once again teamed up to showcase their unique musical style melding guitar and compelling vocals to produce a perfectly balanced mix of folk rock, R&B and soul.
5:15-5:30 pm ~ Announcements
5:30-6:30 pm ~ The Bonedaddys - L.A.'s original and most popular world beat dance band. If you like Rock, Funk, African, R&B, Soul, Reggae, Jazz, Blues, Highlife, New Orleans Second-Line, Gospel, Hillbilly, Zydeco and all things in-between, you'll love The Bonedaddys.
6:30-6:45 pm ~ Announcements
6:45-7:15 pm ~ Sugarbitch - This earthy, hard-driving band is made up of a unique blend of musicians and musical styles. The sound is so original they could well represents the future of improvised Rock and Soul. In a word, they’re amazing!
7:15-7:45 pm ~ Harissa Bellydance - Middle Eastern belly dancing troupe that's blown us away every time they've appeared at Carnevale!  Don't stand too close during the sword dancing!
7:45-8:15 pm ~ Carnevale! Costume Contest Begins - The parade of costumed contest begins featuring fabulous costumes and equally fabulous prizes. Costume contest winners will be announced at 8:45 p.m.
8:15-8:30 pm ~ Hillel - Mr. Balloon Man - Actor, mime, clown and magician, Hillel Gitter performs his famous Mr. Balloon Man act.
8:30-9:00 pm ~ Carnevale! Costume Contest Concludes - Announcement of the winners and awarding of prizes.
9:30-10:00 pm ~ Mutaytor - Amazing performance group featuring more than 30 drummers, fire-spinners and dancers as seen at the famed Burning Man Festival. Their primal percussive sounds are known to "mutate" crowds of unsuspecting spectators into participants!

Carnevale! Ends - But the party doesn't don't forget the after party!

Groove to the hot, fresh sounds of LA’s hippest DJs. Whether you're down for house and hip hop, techno and electronica or disco and soul, Venice Carnevale is bringing it! So if you need your funky beats fix, head on over to the dance floor to get your groove on!

After Party


"Masquerade" The Official After Party

Join us after 10:00 pm for “Masquerade!” our official after party hosted by Canal Club located at 2025 Pacific Ave (at Pacific Ave and North Venice Blvd) right here in Venice Beach! 21 and over with valid ID. Entrance fee includes one FREE Sagatiba Cocktail and is $20 in costume or $25 without a costume.
AND... in addition to the FREE cocktail, you get $10 Off Your Entry Fee with a Masquerade! flyer or copy of the ad in this program.

Dame DeRussey - The ever entertaining Dame DeRussey keeps things moving as your hostess with the mostest!

~ Seeing Thingz - You'll love the group's dynamic, sinuous, simmering sound. Their music conjures up the feel of European circuses, wandering gypsies and bustling foreign street corners taking you away to times and places you've only dreamed of.
12:30-1:30 am ~ DMT (Department of Mental Technology) - Guerilla theater mix of hip-hop, funk and break beats, dancers, performance artists and audience interaction.
